Chiefs and 49ers exchange former first round picks

www.nfl.com reported earlier today that the San Francisco 49ers traded 2012 first round pick, wide receiver A.J. Jenkins to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for their 2011 first round pick, wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin. It's not too often we see player for player trades in the NFL, let alone two former first round draft picks. Both of these players have the "bust" label attached to their names, having failed to live up to their draft selection. Jenkins fell completely out of favor in San Fran, as he continued to struggle and was showing no signs of improvement. Baldwin was a bust for K.C. and despite his physical abilities and starting across from a talented receiver in Dwayne Bowe, he never produced. I think we will see one -- if not -- both, of these players benefit from this change of scenery. The expectations and criticism that Jenkins and Baldwin received from their former teams are no more; it's a fresh start. Both players are young (24 years old) and have the physical requirements, but they both need to work on route running, understanding the offense, and catching the ball consistently, and there's likely several other aspects of their game that the coaches will help them improve on. All parties involved have benefited from this trade, especially the players.
